Wednesday, October 19th the Toronto Raptors’ 2022-23 season officially tipped off in front of an anxious Toronto crowd with a hard fought 108-105 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Toronto, entering the contest as 2.5 point favourites, are anticipating breakout seasons from various different players and gave Dino fans a peak of what’s to come this year. Winning in typical Raptor fashion with 6 players in double digits: Pascal Siakam (23), Gary Trent Jr. (19), O.G. Anunoby (18), Scottie Barnes (15), Fred VanVleet (15) and Precious Achiuwa (10).
Donovan Mitchell, Cleveland’s newest formal addition proved his worth in his Cavs regular season debut. The Cavaliers acquired Mitchell this offseason by in a blockbuster deal which saw Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen and Ochai Agbaji sent to the Utah Jazz along with three unprotected first-round draft picks.
Scoring 31 points to go along with 9 assists 2 rebounds and 2 steals, Mitchell was able to remain +10 despite the 3-point defeat, Cavs fans should be excited for what’s to come.
It took a fourth quarter comeback to seal the Raptors first win of the season as they entered the final frame down 8, 84-76. O.G. Anunoby dropped 10 of his 18 total in the fourth, helping secure the come-from-behind victory.
The Toronto Raptors will travel to Brooklyn for their next game to face off with the Nets, October 21st at 7:30 pm EST.
