The two most dominant teams in the NFL, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs, will be meeting on Sunday, February 12th, to determine who is the world’s best football team. In many past cases, teams have dominated the regular season just to fall by the wayside in the post season. In other cases, teams that haven’t impressed in the regular season come alive in the post season, but in this case, viewers are seeing the two teams that have been atop the NFL power rankings all season long.
How do these two heavyweight sides match up? Who has the advantage going into Superbowl Sunday, and which team do the sportsbooks think is most likely to claim Super Bowl LVII?
How do they Match Up?
What makes the build up to this Super Bowl clash so exciting is how evenly matched these two teams are. Both have MVP level quarterbacks running their respective offences. Patrick Mahomes arguably has the edge over Jalen Hurts, but Hurts’ ability, and the way he fits into the Eagles scheme makes that supposed edge ever so slight.
When it comes to the receivers each of these teams has to choose from, one might argue again that there is barely any edge between these two stacked sides. On the one hand, the Chiefs have the best tight end that is arguably ever played the game in Travis Kelce, along with the likes of Juju Smith-Schuster and Kadarius Toney.
While this is the case, the Eagles have the likes of AJ Brown and Devonta Smith to call upon, who have both been exceptional for the Eagles offence. Throw in Miles Sanders, and the fact that Hurts can rush, and you have one of the most complete attacks the NFL has seen in recent times.
Do the Eagles have the edge?
As the above section mentioned, at a glance, it appears that the Eagles may have a few more solid receiving options compared to the Chiefs. A follow-up argument would then be; how have the Chiefs managed an identical record to the Eagles all season long.
Part of it might be due to the QB – TE connection between Mahomes and Kelce. There’s a strong argument that Mahomes is the best QB in the NFL, and that Kelce is the best TE of all time. This for all intents and purposes tends to cancel out whatever edge may or may not exist for the Eagles over the Chiefs.
As it stands, barely anything separates these two juggernauts, and if both squads remain fully fit and available throughout the build up to Super Bowl Sunday, there is no knowing who will emerge as victors.
Eagles early favourites on Canadian Sportsbooks
While there may be little to separate these sides in theory, the job of odds setters is to weigh up factors, look for differences, and calculate probabilities. As it stands, the sportsbooks listed on mybettingsites.com/ca all seem to have set the Eagles as early favourites.
While this may be the case, it’s anyone’s guess as to who will win the Super Bowl.
