29th-ranked MLB prospect Ricky Tiedemann is to miss the Toronto Blue Jays first 2024 Spring Training game against the Philadelphia Phillies at TD Ballpark due to a hamstring injury. According to Shi Davidi, John Schneider and the Blue Jays will learn more after some tests are conducted with Tiedemann. The full extent of the young starter’s injury is currently unknown. This is likely a precautionary move so the issue doesn’t worsen.

The Ricky Tiedemann Experience

Ricky Tiedemann has been rather encouraging this February, reaching 96 MPH in one of his first days of camp. Across 4 different leagues in 2023 (Rookie, A, AA, AAA), Tiedemann had a decent 3.68 ERA. While this may not seem elite, his strikeout numbers were phenomenal. The southpaw had 82 strikeouts in 44 innings in 2023, an encouraging sign that shows that he can be a capable MLB starter in the near future.

Tiedemann is expected to have his MLB debut come in the 2024 season with the Toronto Blue Jays. The process can speed up a lot quicker if one of Toronto’s starting rotation has a disappointing start to the season and needs a change of scenery. Either way, many Blue Jays fans are excited to see what the big lefty has to offer to a Toronto team that is expected to be in the hunt for a playoff spot.

Chad Dallas Time!

While Ricky Tiedemann’s injury isn’t an encouraging sign coming into Spring Training, it doesn’t seem to be a severe issue when it comes to Tiedemann missing time. SP Chad Dallas, who had a 2.03 ERA and 12.5 K/9 in High A, will start the contest tomorrow against Philadelphia. Dallas has had consistently high strikeout numbers throughout his minor league career and was named a possible candidate that can help the Toronto Blue Jays win a championship by Buck Martinez from the “Blair and Barker” Podcast.
