After the Baltimore Orioles acquired Former Cy Young winner, Corbin Burnes, on February 1st, it is clear that if the Blue Jays want to be super competitive in the division race, they need to add a couple more pieces. With the Brewers trading Burnes, there are speculations of them trading other players who are on expiring contracts. SS Willy Adames is in the final year of his contract before he reaches free agency and I believe he is someone the Toronto Blue Jays should definitely keep an eye on.

First of all, let’s go over the stats. In 482 games since 2020, Adames has hit .240/.316/.451 totalling to a .767 OPS and a 110 OPS+, something the Jays would love to see in their lineup. In 2023, Adames was an incredible defender, with 16 OAA and 8 DRS at shortstop and I’m sure his defensive production can be replicated at the hot corner. For reference, Matt Chapman had 2 OAA and 12 DRS meaning Adames will fill be able to fill the hole left by Matt Chapman exceptionally.

Willy Adames is a great choice to become the next third baseman of the Toronto Blue Jays. Adames has shown a consistent skill set with a very high ceiling and not that low of a floor that would make him a major move for the Jays to be able to stay competitive in the AL East. He also opens up some more trade opportunities like sending off Santiago Espinal and some other infield depth.
