It’s been six long years since rookie Mackenzie Hughes won the RMS Classic in just his 5th PGA Tour start as a member. Hughes managed his second, edging out world number 39 Sepp Straka in a playoff at the Sanderson Farms Championship Sunday.

After what Hughes described as a “so-so start” with a 71 Thursday. He put on magnificent display Friday shooting a 63 with 9 birdies. The Canadian earned a 31 spot promotion on the world ranking. Jumping from No. 82 to 51 and on the verge of regaining a top 50 ranking. A feat Hughes managed last November, where he started the year No. 39, a career high.

Mackenzie credited maintaining positive mindset as well as an increased swing-speed training regimen with Mike Carroll at Fit For Golf.

“In the last couple years I’ve kind of wavered in and out of it a little bit. In the last, I’d say two and a half months, two months, I’ve really upped the anti on that and I’ve kind of really bought in.” Hughes said after the win Sunday.
